On June 19th, 2009 the erection of king Kazimierz has begun, the king will be the patron of the 43rd Festival of Folk Bands and Singers that will be held on June 26th - 28th , 2009 in Kazimierz Dolny upon the Vistula River. This great king Kazimierz will be present in town also after the termination of the Festival. All construction work has been performed by Mostostal Pulawy S.A., The College of Fine Arts in Kazimierz Dolny was the creator of the crown and king’s head.
On June 22nd the steel corpus of the festival’s mascot will be heighten with the additional element, so the king could achieve the original height of 14 meters including the crown ( diameter of 2,5 meters). The whole construction consists of 3 tones of steel and 500 kg of plywood.
Mostostal guarantees that the King Kazimierz, that has returned to the town after almost 20 years of his absence, will be the mascot of Kazimierz for the next 20 years. The return was possible thanks to the efforts of City Council of Kazimierz Dolny and its cooperation with Cultural Center of Lubelskie Voivodeship, the organizer of the Festival. This activities have been intensified during the term of Grzegorz Dunia – the mayor of Kazimierz Dolny. It was also possible thanks to the sponsors of this project – Mostostal Pulawy SA and Hotel Król Kazimierz.
