On February 12th -14th 2007 Mostostal Pulawy S.A. commenced the process of assembling steel elements of the right-hand side of the bridge over the River Vistula in Pulawy. It was here that, after long and demanding preparations, the operation of lifting and assembling one of the largest structural elements of the bridge was started.
Executing this precision-demanding task required that the elements be prepared correctly. To prepare for this 36 elements for the right-hand side and left-hand side were made in the plant. Then, on site, employees of Mostostal Pulawy S.A. linked them in 4 huge elements. Two were 56m in length and weighed a total of 302t and two were 30m in length and weighed a total of 154t.
Each element was 3m high and 6m wide.
All 4 elements comprising the tandem set of girders had to be lifted and placed on 15-meter-high supports. Two cranes were used: a truck crane with a lifting capacity of 450t and a caterpillar crane lifting 280t. A 100 tonne caterpillar crane was also used in preparing and support work, together with truck cranes hoisting 30t to 80t.
In total 456t of steel construction was assembled 172m in length.
The bridge is part of the investment task “Construction of the 1st stage of the 12.71km Pulawy ring road with construction of a 1038.2-metre-long bridge on the Vistula”. Mostostal Pulawy S.A. is the producer of 2400t steel structures for the newly-built bridge.
The project value is around PLN 400 million. The project is co-financed by the European Union. The planned date of completion is the first half of 2008.
