On 12 October 2015 President Tadeusz Rybak participated in the IV edition of the “Chemical Industry Summit & Awards Gala”. This year edition of the “Chemical Industry Summit & Awards Gala” was opened with a speech regarding the future of the European chemical industry by Alexis Brouhns. The CEO of Solvay Europe spoke about challenges faced by Europe in the context of growing Asian markets. The conclusions from the speech of the representative of Solvay Europe set the tone for the subsequent debate.
The discussion in the inaugural panel entitled “Global chemistry – power in solidarity?” moderated by Jacek Socha, vice president and partner of PwC Poland, who also hosted the Gala when “Diamonds of Polish Chemistry” were handed in. Jacek Socha also asked the speakers about the forecasts regarding the common industrial policy with regards to changing principles and regulations. Paweł Jarczewski, president of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty, underlined the strong position of his company in the fertilizer and gas industry, also mentioning the measurable outcomes provided by liberalization of the chemical market in Poland. Michał Sołowow, owner of Synthos, Rovese, Barlinek and Komfort, who in this year’s edition of the competition “Diamonds of Polish Chemistry” received a statue for being “Personality of the Year”, underlined among others the need to improve the conditions of coal mining, and president of the Management Board of DOW for Poland and Baltic countries - Robert Stankiewicz – expressed a positive attitude of DOW towards the TTIP agreement. Piotr M. Szelenbaum (White & Case law firm) commented on the impact of the environmental regulations and the customs duties in the USA, Asia and Europe on equal opportunities for competition. Also Karl-H. Foerster, managing director of PlasticsEurope, spoke in the discussion and he argued that economy is not only supposed to use all resources, but also ensure their optimal use through recycling.
