Daniel Staniszewski had an excellent start at the Under 23 European Track Cycling Championships in the Portuguese Anadia. The Pogoń Mostostal Puławy competitor won two bronze medals.
The 20 year old from Ciechanów is currently considered to hold the best future potential for Polish Track Cycling. In the previous season he raced in Verva ActiveJet, but after that group broke up, he decided to continue his career in Pogoń Mostostal Puławy. Thus, Lubelskie Province has a cyclist with a number of successes under his belt - in 2015 the was the Polish individual pursuit and scratch champion, and the following year he was second in the individual pursuit World Cup held in Glasgow. In spring of this year he started in senior world championships in Hong Kong, and despite returning home without a medal, he showed what he is capable of.
He was outstanding in the U-23 European championships. He won the first medal on the first day on the Iberian Peninsula. He was third in the individual pursuit race and missed a place in the final by half a second.
He had to wait another two days for his next medal - team pursuit. In impressive style, together with Dawid Czubak, Szymon Krawczyk and Bartosz Rudyk he competed for top positions. In the qualifiers, the white and red team established a new Polish record of 4:01.626. They successfully crossed wheels with the Swiss team in the fight for the bronze medal. The Helvetians crossed the finish line more than 0.3 seconds late.
It should also be noted that the racer from Puławy also took part in scratch and the Madison race. He finished fifth in both races. - I think that Daniel achieved outstanding results. I thought the individual pursuit race was a bit of a bad luck - he could have gotten into the final. However, there is no point complaining - brought home two medals. That is a major achievement for our club. I am happy that he can prepare well for track racing also by racing on the road - says Adam Wojewódka, Pogoń Mostostal Puławy coach.
